In Conversation with 3+ Collective

We are excited to welcome 3+ Collective to the Guelph Dance Festival! Founded by Yuichiro Inoue, Pulga Muchochoma, and Naishi Wang in 2018, 3+ will be bringing their work Space Within Us to our In the Park series this year. We spoke to Pulga on behalf of 3+ about the work and the upcoming festival:

GD: What about your work are you most excited to share with the audience?

P: The 3 of us are very excited to bring people together during this time to share our work and just to be around people. Our piece requires a lot of visual interaction and this will be a perfect time to revisit that feeling of being together.

GD: What was your biggest takeaway from the process of creating this work? Has the work shifted over the past few years?

P: The biggest takeaway from us creating this work is just the experience we shared as individuals and creators. We realised that working is fun when you actually enjoy the people that you work with. The only time the work shifted is when we did a film version. It’s not the same without audience interaction.

GD: This is the first year the GD Festival is showcasing both live and live streamed versions of artist’s works. Can you speak about the opportunity to perform in front of live audiences again as well as view your work digitally?

P: Having an audience automatically will support the virtual version. We just hope that people watching from home can feel as if they were watching in person. It’s just an honour for us to be a part of this project and to share our work with all of you no matter where you are watching from.

You can see 3+ Collective’s Space Within Us by donation at our In the Park series, happening on June 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Visit our festival page to see the full festival schedule and to get your tickets!
