Tkaronto/Toronto based choreographer, Jera Wolfe will be performing with Tio’tia:ke/Montréal based poet, Natasha Kanapé Fontaine at Exhibition Park as part of the IN THE PARK series. Jera shares a bit about the dance, About the dream.
What motivated you to make the work you will be sharing at the Guelph Dance Festival?
Jera: This is a duet that is part of a larger work in progress. The full length work will be fully realized and have its world premiere in 2025. The work was inspired by my own journey of re-mapping myself and reclaiming my indigeneity.
How long have you been working on this piece and how has it changed since its inception?
J: The is the 4th time the work has ever been performed and probably the last until it becomes part of a full length production. Our first creation phase took place in 2023.
What was your biggest takeaway from the process of creating this work?
J: This work is a privilege for me to perform. I am very inspired by Natasha and feel grateful for the opportunity to move to her voice.
