Join dance artist Meryem Alaoui in a 75 minute embodied experiential awareness workshop designed for you to move deeply into and within states of ease, comfort, self-discovery and knowing. Infused with Dreamwalker Dance Company’s Conscious Bodies activations that are at the heart of The Welcome Project, this delightful class invites participants to explore and discover connections between your whole self and the place where you find yourself today.
Artistic Director of Jasad Dance Projects, Meryem Alaoui is a dancer-choreographer from Morocco, living in Toronto. Her work is often an invitation towards a softer and sensorial experience of dance. A graduate of the School of Toronto Dance Theatre, she has danced for choreographers Amanda Acorn, Peggy Baker, and Antony Hamilton with the company Dancemakers, among others. Her choreographic works, including ‘Sand Body’ and ‘Solo (not solo) Water Study’, have been shown in Ontario, including at Summerworks, and Quebec at Tangente. In 2019, she participated in the CreativAction program where she created a solo for Sonia Rodriguez, principal dancer at the National Ballet of Canada. Meryem has received residency support nationally and internationally, and funding from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario and Toronto Arts Councils. She’s also been involved in community and arts-education projects through Dreamwalker Dance, Arts Etobicoke and the Arabic Community Centre of Toronto.
