Guelph and regional (35 km radius) dance artists are invited to propose a project idea with the body as the primary tool. This residency will allow artists to dive deeply into their own creative process. This residency will allow dance artists the space and freedom to investigate, transform, deviate, take risks, and question.
Who is a dance artist?
All dance artists practising any forms who are committed to a rich and rigorous exploration of the art form using the body as their primary tool to investigate and question in a deep and meaningful way will be considered.
Participants will be invited to share their findings at the 2026 annual Guelph Dance Festival, taking place June 5-7.
Who should apply?
- Dance artists who wish to be supported in their artistic practice and to be provided the time and resources to develop work.
- Dance artists who wish to be in conversation with their peers and their community throughout the development of their work.
- Dance artists who live in the Guelph and regional area (35 km radius).
What will the selection committee consider?
- How the proposed project will contribute to the artist’s development and creative process at this time.
- How the project will enhance diverse representation reflective of the region.
- Does the proposal demonstrate potential for making artistic experiences accessible through its creation/working practices, subject matter, and/or sharing with the public?
- The artist’s willingness to take creative risks and explore timely and relevant subject matter.
How will Guelph Dance support my process during this residency?
Studio Space and Artist Fee: The Artist in Residence will be provided with 25 hours of studio time and an artist fee of $1000 to explore your work. All artistic practice must occur between March and June 2026 with the possibility of hosting an open rehearsal as part of the Guelph Dance Festival.
