Mara Dupas

Mara Dupas is a French-Canadian artist of Martinican descent. After moving to Montreal at age 9 with their family, they quickly discovered their love for movement. Mara studied classical ballet before integrating the Montreal school of contemporary dance (EDCM) in 2019. Since graduating in May 2022, they had the opportunity to collaborate with choreographers such as Charlie Prince and Louise Bédard, in addition to developing their own practice as a creator.

Mara mainly uses writing and movement as mediums, allowing them to speak out on societal and individual issues. Their work explores West Indian culture, and ways in which traditional dances from Martinique can be mixed with a contemporary dance practice.
